Job Title: Ironworker – Steel Erection / Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings

Location: Abilene, Texas

Pay Rate: $25 per hour

Per Diem: $115 per day

Job Type: Full-Time

Hours: 55–60 hours per week


Job Overview:

We are seeking experienced Ironworkers to join our team in Abilene, TX. This role focuses on steel erection and pre-engineered metal building installation. Candidates will work with structural steel, operate industrial machinery, and ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to high-quality standards. Strong mechanical and technical skills are required, as well as the ability to read and interpret blueprints and layouts.


Responsibilities:

  • Read specifications or blueprints to determine locations, quantities, or sizes of materials required
  • Fabricate metal parts, such as steel frames, columns, beams, or girders, according to blueprints or supervisor instructions
  • Unload and position prefabricated steel units for hoisting as needed
  • Hoist steel beams, girders, or columns into place using cranes or by signaling hoisting equipment operators
  • Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel members using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, or levels
  • Cut, bend, or weld steel pieces using metal shears, torches, or welding equipment
  • Force structural steel members into final positions using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks, or hand tools
  • Pull, push, or pry structural steel members into approximate positions for bolting into place
  • Bolt aligned structural steel members for permanent riveting, bolting, or welding
  • Assemble hoisting equipment or rigging, such as cables, pulleys, or hooks, to move heavy materials or equipment
  • Take personal responsibility for fostering a safe workplace by following safety policies and procedures
  • Train or supervise others in job duties as needed
  • Perform a variety of duties, including those of other positions as assigned

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Successful completion of an Ironworker apprenticeship preferred
  • 3+ years of Journeyman-level ironworking experience required
  • Industrial machine licenses (e.g., forklift) preferred
  • Must have experience with:
  • I-Beams
  • Operating aerial lifts
  • Pre-Fabricated metal building erection
  • Ironwork construction
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools used in construction or repair of buildings or industrial structures
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology
  • Ability to visualize layouts by reading plans and prints
  • Ability to comprehend and troubleshoot mechanical systems
  • Must have OSHA 10 Construction Industry certification (current within last 5 years)
  • Must be able to pass a work physical and pre-employment drug screening


Job Summary:

This role is for Journeyman-level Ironworkers experienced in steel erection and pre-engineered metal building installation. Candidates must possess strong mechanical knowledge, hands-on experience with I-beams and aerial lifts, and the ability to operate industrial machinery safely. This position offers $25/hour, $115/day per diem, and a 55–60 hour workweek. Safety is a top priority, and candidates must hold OSHA 10 certification and pass both a work physical and drug screening.
